How to check your driving test date
Can't remember when or where your practical driving test is booked? You can confirm the exact date, time and test centre of your appointment in a couple of minutes using the DVSA's free online service — here's how, including what to do if you've lost your booking reference.
Check your driving test appointment online
- Go to the DVSA's 'Check your driving test appointment' service on GOV.UK.
- Enter your UK driving licence number.
- Enter your booking reference if you have it — the service will show your test date, time and centre.
Lost your booking reference?
Your booking reference is in the confirmation email the DVSA sent when the test was booked (search your inbox for “DVSA” or “driving test”). If you can't find it, the check service can help you recover your appointment details using your licence number, or you can contact the DVSA directly.
Lost your theory test certificate number too? Request it here: Find your lost theory test pass certificate number.
Checked your date and it's months away?
You don't have to settle for it. Every day, learners cancel or move their tests, and those slots return to the DVSA's 'Change your driving test appointment' service where anyone with an existing booking can claim them for free.
Let TestShift do the checking. TestShift scans your test centre every minute for cancellations, reserves matching slots for 15 minutes while you decide, and completes the change you approve when you accept. Learners regularly bring their tests forward by a month or more. Open the web app to set it up in minutes.
FAQs about checking your driving test
Can I check my test date with just my licence number?
The service works best with both your licence number and booking reference, but your licence number is the key identifier — the service can locate your appointment from it.
Does checking my appointment change anything?
No. The check service is read-only — nothing about your booking changes until you go through the separate change service and confirm a new slot.
My test isn't showing — what's wrong?
Double-check your licence number for typos. If it still doesn't appear, the booking may have been made under different details — contact the DVSA to trace it.
